Matt grew up in Washington Township, Michigan playing for Honeybaked, Belle Tire and Little Caesars. He ended up winning the 2000 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with Honeybaked. He then began his amateur career playing in the North American Hockey League with the Texarkana Bandits earning a place on the Second All-Star Team, the All-Rookie Team, and winning the NAHL's Rookie of the year. Matt played all 4 years for Providence College with a selection to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team as a junior. Taormina went on to have a 10 year professional career as an undrafted free agent. During that time he was awarded the Eddie Shore Award in 2016-17 for the AHL's outstanding defenseman and First-Team All-Star and was a 5 time AHL All-Star. Matt is entering his 5th year as a head coach in the Honeybaked organization.
