Jason ‘Soupy’ Campbell, from Orangeville, Ontario, Canada is in his 7th year as Head Coach and his 17th year as either a player, coach, or member of the front office for the Shreveport Mudbugs franchise. Campbell joined Shreveport for the 1999-2000 season and played 412 games over 7 Seasons where he registered 129 goals and 167 assists for 296 points. Campbell won 2 Championships as a Player (1999-2001 ) and was named playoff MVP in the 2000-2001 championship season.
Campbell has been a member of the NAHL Shreveport Mudbugs since their inaugural NAHL season in 2016-2017. Campbell has won 2 Robertson Cup Championships ( 2017-2018 and 2020-2021 ) as both an Assistant and Head Coach. Campbell has coached over 250 regular season games with a record of 150-82-26 and is 15-9 in the playoffs. With Campbell behind the bench as either an assistant or head coach Shreveport is 6-0 in the league final four.
During his NAHL tenure Shreveport has helped 44 players make NCAA Division 1 Commitments, 32 players advance to NCAA Division III, 7 to professional levels, 2 NHL draft picks and won two NAHL Robertson Cups. Shreveport is one of two South Division teams to have qualified for the playoffs in each season since 2016 and the only team to win 2 Championships in that span.
Prior to Shreveport, Campbell played four seasons in the OHL for Owen Sound where he was Captain his final season. He also played three seasons of Canadian University hockey for the University of New Brunswick where he helped win UNB’s first National Championship (1998). Interesting fact about Coach Soupy, he also played JR A Lacrosse for his hometown Orangeville Northmen winning 3 Minto Cups in a span of 4 years (1993, 1995, and 1996).
A proud member of Shreveport’s community almost his entire adult life Campbell married Miss Shanda Ables of Jonesboro LA in 2003. Shanda is an RN on the Labor Unit at WK South. The Campbell’s have three children, Maddie, Cade, and Aly, and currently reside in Bossier City. Maddie attends LA Tech and dances for the Regal Blues, Cade attends East Texas Baptist University where he is playing hockey, and Aly attends Airline High where she plays soccer and cheers.
