COLGATE COACHING CAREER
Most recently, Fargo led the Raiders to 30 wins for the second time in his tenure, finishing with a 30-8-1 record including a 16-5-1 mark in conference play. Colgate won the ECAC Conference Championship for the second consecutive season and earned the fourth seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Colgate spent the entire season ranked in both the DCU/USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey polls. The Raiders defeated seven nationally-ranked opponents, including No. 3 Minnesota in the Smashville NCAA Showcase championship. Fargo had three players named ECAC All-League (two second-team, one third-team) and one named Third Team All-USCHO at the end of the season.

During the 2020-21 season, Colgate posted a 15-7-1 overall record with an 8-4 mark in the ECAC. The Raiders were crowned ECAC Regular Season Champions and defeated St. Lawrence to win their first ECAC Conference Championship. Colgate was awarded the fourth seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Colgate recorded seven wins against ranked opponents while the Raiders were ranked No. 5 in the country for 11 consecutive weeks. Colgate racked up post season awards, with two Raiders being named First Team All-League, two freshman earning All-Rookie honors, one freshman tabbing Rookie of the Year and one player being honored as the program’s first ECAC Player of the Year.

Fargo's Raiders posted a record of 17-15-6 in the 2019-20 season including a mark of 11-8-3 in ECAC play. Colgate earned the sixth seed in the conference tournament. Following the season, three freshmen were named to ECAC's All-Rookie Team and one was tabbed Third-Team All-League.

Fargo continued to keep the Raider in national prominence during the 2018-19 campaign. Colgate started the season with its highest preseason ranking in program history at fifth in the country.

Throughout the course of the season, the Raiders won five games against ranked opponents, including a regular season sweep of the defending national champion Clarkson Golden Knights. That helped them finish the regular season with the number two seed in the ECAC Tournament on the strength of 15 conference wins and 23 victories overall.

During the season, a trio of Raider seniors were drafted into the NWHL. Jessie Eldridge and Olivia Zafuto were both taken by the Buffalo Beauts and Bailey Larson was chosen by the Boston Pride.

A bevy of players were honored with postseason awards. Four players were named to ECAC all-league teams and Eldridge was named a finalist for the league player of the year award, Zafuto was a finalist for defenseman of the year and Tanner Gates was chosen as a finalist for the league rookie of the year award. Eldridge was also chosen as a third team All-USCHO player and Gates was named to the All-USCHO all-rookie team.

Fargo was named the 2017-18 Division I National Coach of the Year by both the American Hockey Coaches Association and USCHO.com.

Under the direction of Fargo, the Raiders experienced several new program firsts in the 2017-18 season. First Regular Season ECAC Hockey Conference Title, first conference title game appearance, first NCAA Tournament berth, first Frozen Four, first national championship game.

The Raiders finished as national runners up and with the No. 2 spot in both the USCHO.com and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine College Hockey Polls, the highest ranking in program history.

Four Raiders were tabbed All-ECAC Hockey performers: Lauren Wildfang (First Team), Jessie Eldridge (Second Team), Julia Vandyk (Third Team) and Shae Labbe (Third Team). Wildfang and Breanne Wilson-Bennett received national honors, receiving All-USCHO Second Team honors.

Fargo and the Raiders recorded a program-high 34 wins. This comes on the heels of them recording back-to-back 22-win seasons, which were then program bests.

During the 2016-17 campaign, Fargo led the team to a program record 13-game unbeaten streak and seven-game winning streak. The Raiders had three separate winning streaks of five games during the season. In addition to the team success, Fargo coached ECAC Hockey Third Team selection Jessie Eldridge. As a team, the Raiders had a program record 18 players named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team.

In the offseason, three-time captain Annika Zalewski became the first Raider drafted into the NWHL when she was selected by the Buffalo Beauts in the fourth round with the 14th overall pick.

Colgate posted a 22-9-7 overall record for a .671 winning percentage in the 2015-16 season. Both the victory total and percentage were program records, and the Raiders also made history by finishing fourth in the ECAC Hockey standings and hosting a league tournament quarterfinal series for the first time.

The Raiders captured that series in dramatic fashion, defeating Harvard 2-games-to-1 thanks to an overtime goal in the decisive third game. That overtime tally came in the final collegiate contest played inside historic Starr Rink and further etched the storybook finish into Colgate lore.

The victory also was Fargo’s 50th behind the Colgate bench and boosted the Raiders into the ECAC Hockey tournament semifinals for just the second time in program history.

Colgate finished 12-5-5 in ECAC Hockey and returned all 10 of its double-digit scorers for the 2016-17 season, including nine underclass student-athletes. Fargo believes 2015-16 was just the first step the program’s path to championship competition.

In addition to Fargo’s success with the Colgate program, he also earned kudos as an assistant coach for Canada’s Under-18 National Team. The Canadians earned a silver medal in January at the 2016 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, and Fargo continues to be an important part of the women’s amateur hockey program in his native country.

Fargo now owns a career head coaching record of 276-157-36 (.627), including a mark of 191-134-25 (.581) at Colgate.
