Coach Bio

Craig Furstenau began his coaching career at the same place where he last played as team captain, Oakland University. Craig took over the coaching reins at his alma mater in 2002 and led his team to their first ever 20 win season. In three years at Oakland, Craig’s team finished in the top 10 nationally all three seasons including a national title in 2004 and a national runner up in 2005.

Craig left Oakland for Little Caesars AAA where he spent his next four seasons developing some of the nation’s best young players. As a head coach in the LC organization, Craig led his teams to the state finals all three seasons including back to back state championships in 2007 and 2008 and second place finish in 2009. Craig’s Bantam Major team finished in the top 6 nationally in 2007 and his Midget Minor team won the National Championship in 2008.

After a total of four great seasons with Little Caesars, Craig spent one season working with the Detroit Red Wings’ affiliate Toledo Walleye. With Toledo, Craig worked on individual player skills but primarily worked with the team’s video system. As a video coach, Craig was able to categorize team film for simple review and strategizing as well as used to correct individual player mistakes.

Craig went onto Wyoming to coach the Yellowstone Quake Tier 3 Junior A. Craig’s team made the playoffs in his only season there but Craig returned to Michigan after the season to be home near his ill brother. Craig then spent one season with the Michigan Ice Hawks Bantam AA team. After one very successful season including multiple tournament and playoff titles, Craig began commuting to Aspen to train a small group of kids in Colorado.

Craig spent two seasons with the Rocky Mountain Snow Kings before forming the Belle Tire 2003 team which has been the best 03 team in the nation since its creation. Craig left the Belle Tire team after his third state title to coach the Michigan Ice Hawks 04s at the Pee Wee level. Under Craig’s leadership, the Ice Hawks won several tournaments and finished the season with the State Championship, Craig’s fourth.

Currently Craig is coaching the Belle Tire 2007 team.
